Remote Editing
Adding and editing Markdown directly via FTP
You can upload Markdown files directly into the CMS folder on your server (via FTP or a file manager). As long as the files are formatted correctly and placed in the right directory, your live site will detect and display them automatically. This is handy if you want to add content remotely or generate it from another system.
Important note: these files will not appear in your Elements project.
Currently, Elements does not sync content from the CMS folder on the server back into the app. That means:
They won’t show up in the CMS folder inside Elements.
You won’t be able to edit or manage them in the app.
Republishing your site from Elements may overwrite or remove them.
Best Practice
If you plan to manage posts or data outside of Elements, that’s fine: Just remember it’s a one-way sync. Treat Elements as the source of truth for anything you want to manage within the editor.
We’d like to add support for syncing server content back into Elements in the future, but for now, keep in mind that the app only pushes data out, it doesn’t pull it back in.
